Donna Air, the Middletons and the case of the missing knitting.

“Donna Air, who has been linked to James Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge’s younger brother, always told Mandrake that she wasn’t ready for knitting and slippers,” says the Telegraph.

Oh Donna. Don’t you know you can shag the hell out of a Middleton and STILL dabble in a bit of knit one, purl one?

Nicola Horlick: when on earth does she have time to sew?

The uber-business woman admits to the Daily Mail that she loves it. Fair – it’s an amazing de-stressor – but, still. She’s got FIVE kids and a MEGA job. I write about this kind of thing, and still rarely get the time to make.

I’m glad she does though.

This afternoon I wish I was at the Craft Skills Awards.

Alas, one of the very few downsides of having a lovely full time job is that you don’t always get to stuff in the day. And this smashing event, which celebrates the awesome people who pass on craft skills, would have been a cracker. Ol’ Prince Charles is there, Allsopp’s hosting, and a smogasbord of lovely craft people and hanging out for the day.

Next year, I hope.

Knit your own royal baby? Not yet, thank you.

20130423-092858.jpg

Saw this in Time Out this morning. Eeek! I know Fiona Goble and the lovely Ivy Press wanted to be the first with this pattern but, god forbid, something happens (which it can, and does), it’d be shit to have a pattern for a baby that never made it.

Yep, I’m mega superstitious about these things, especially when it comes to making stuff for babies. Sozza.

Debenhams + Stephen Jones = the end of naff highstreet hats?

Highstreet fascinators are usually pretty shocking (as Philip Treacy said in my book, “‘Cheap imitations are leading to the downfall of the headgear trend that milliners worked so hard to create; now they are just limp feathers and a tacky flower.”) So it’s awesome news that millinery legend Stephen Jones is doing a line for Debenhams.

Lovely piece on this by Peter York in the Independent.

Mia Wasikowska needs lessons in cool.

“I love knitting. Oops, maybe I shouldn’t have said that, it’s not good for my image,” femalefirst.co.uk reports.

Whatevs Wasik, whatevs.

Crafters: the new US pollsters?

Followers of MADWP will know that I’m rather partial to a bit of political craft – it’s why I made this gallery of the best Obama and Romney craft for the Guardian.

Having written it the day before the election, I wasn’t sure whether Melanie Howard’s prediction was going to be that accurate (she reckoned Obama might do it as his finger puppets were outselling the Romney ones), but I’m SUPER glad she was.
